The Secondary School

At the International School of Toulouse we acknowledge the importance of creating a learning environment that allows our students to develop flexible learning skills - so necessary if they are to become adaptable in the face of change. To support this philosophy, great emphasis is placed on the creation of an ethos where academic success is valued and students learn to enjoy the intellectual challenges of learning.

Our ethos is characterised by a friendly and caring environment where the student is respected as an individual and as a member of the community. Students are encouraged to become self-disciplined and responsible, to build good relationships and to respect our cultural diversity. But our students also need to become integrated into the culture of their host country. Language being the point of access, tuition in French is based on the needs of the individual, whatever her/his level of ability on arrival. Our programmes of study seek to emphasise the positive in French culture and use the local environment to promote it.

LEARNING

The School values academic performance. All our students are entered for the International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE), an internationally recognised qualification followed by schools in more than one hundred countries. Our final year students are entered for the International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, leading to qualifications that allow access to universities worldwide.

Middle school students follow courses that are developed for the needs of our population and are also intended to reflect the international nature of our school.

Relatively small classes enable Programmes of Study to be designed that recognise diversity in learning styles and the pace at which individuals learn most effectively. Total access to laptop technology supports us in developing a culture of learning at any time and any pace, allowing all students to be intellectually challenged and to be set targets focused on their individual potential.

The curriculum at The International School of Toulouse is balanced in content and methodology. Our students learn how to work effectively as members of a group, while using the considerable resources at their disposal to become skilled independent learners. They are also encouraged to appreciate the unity of knowledge by studying key transferable skills across the boundaries of subject disciplines.
